Please help I haven't been able to have my beer yet. So my question is how do people usually share out files to Mac desktops? AFP, NFS, SMB? Are they all this slow? I can't imagine anyone being able to get anything done with this level of performance. I built a FreeNAS running AFP and copied the files over to that.same result, very very slow. I did some googling and found this is common complaint with OSX and SMB. I called Apple and they of course had nothing useful to say. I also setup a QNAP NAS with AFP and then SMB, same situation, very slow at browsing. You can add custom users to Samba/SMBUp with these steps: Create sharing-only user In your accounts/Users & Groups Preferences section click the + to add a new user and select, from the pop-up menu, Sharing Only: Add the sharing-only user to Samba issuing these. The run dialog box appears Type in followed by the NetBIOS name of your Mac. How can I add sharing-only users to SMBUp/Samba shares. Scroll down and expand the Remote Server Administration Tools section. If you dont see your Mac show up in Network, you can try a direct connection: Press the Windows Key and tap R. In Windows 8 and older versions of Windows 10, right-click the Start button and choose Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off. Once connected, you can now browse the files on your Mac. The server is brand new, running Server 2016, hdd's are SSD. For Gmail users in particular, more thorough solutions are available, many which are free. I tested this with a Windows machine and files and folders show up immediately and you can quickly browse around. When I browse to this share from a mac it takes upwards of 10-15 mins before a single folder shows up in the window. One of the shares has about 25k folders in it. While it does connect and authenticate, it's painfully slow completely useless its so slow. Sounded simple enough, build server, copy 50GB of data to server, create some user accounts and file shares, attach iMacs to server, test and then have a beer. To re-enable windows file sharing you should do two things: 1.-Go to System Preferences -> Sharing -> Windows File Sharing. IM AT A LOSS FOR SOLUTIONS.I've been tasked to make a Windows server share out some files to a network of 10 iMacs. When you uninstall SMBUp (there's an option to do so in the menus) everything installed by it is removed but these services can't be re-enabled programmatically. Can someone provide me concrete solutions for this problem? If you read everything above, I have tried everything. I even tried to just share the folders thru windows smb. but now even when I go back to look at the folders there, the lock preferences screen pops up and juts loops, no matter how many times I put in the credentials. as of right now, I have everything shared thru zero config. I put in the username and password of my iMac, and yet that screen just keeps looping, never accepting the credentials it seems. but now, when I go to watch my movies, the lock preferences screen continuously pops up when I click on any of the folders im sharing from my iMac. For a couple of days it worked, and yes I did turn on libdsm for smb servers, I did input user name and password when adding the share. After putting all of my permissions correct on my iMac running OS High Sierra, and sharing the folders I need on that side, I configured and added those folders via smb on MRMC. I have tried everything and yet im still stuck in the mud. Hey guys, im STILL searching for answers, and I still have yet for anyone to answer my issue or help me.
